Meter Tampering

People who tamper with gas meters and piping endanger their own lives. They also risk the lives of their family and neighbors.

People caught stealing gas automatically have their service disconnected. Before gas service can be restored, payment must be made for the stolen gas. In addition, any deposits and disconnect or reconnect fees allowed by the Alabama Public Service Commission must be paid.

Illegally reconnecting a gas meter after service has been disconnected is a crime that is punishable by state law with a fine or imprisonment.

Most people would never think of trying to steal gas, but some do. If you are aware of meter tampering, please report it to your local Alagasco service department.
