Average Monthly Billing
Alagasco offers a service called Average Monthly Billing (AMB) that spreads your gas costs throughout the year. The amount you pay each month is based on a calculation of your last 12 months of consumption bills.
Here’s how AMB works:
- TOTAL the bill amounts from the previous 11 billing periods
- ADD the bill amount for the current billing period
- MULTIPLY BY the number of days in the current billing period
- DIVIDE BY the total of the number of days in the current billing period plus 330.*
*330 represents 30 days in each month for the previous 11 billing periods.
For example, the total for 11 billing periods ($885.75) plus the current billing period ($97.25) equals $983.00. Multiply 983.00 by 29 days (number of days in current billing period) which equals 28507. Divide 28507 by 359 days (29 days for the current billing period plus 330 days for the previous 11 billing periods) which equals 79.40. See below:
885.75 + 97.25 = 983.00 x 29 = 28507 / 359 = 79.40
The Average Monthly Billing Amount is $79.00 for that billing period.
You will receive the greatest benefit with AMB if you stay on the plan year round. To remain on AMB, you must pay the AMB amount in full each month. When AMB is discontinued, any balance on the account is due at that time.
